Disaster management needs to be decentralized to the level of the individuals. The individual at risk should be empowered to be able to make informed choices for herself and her family’s safety.

SEEDS is currently promoting such activities in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Orissa and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Activities include training programme for stakeholder groups, demonstrations and drills, village level planning, school safety and strengthening government-community linkages.

SEEDS along with local partners, is also preparing a mitigation plan for Shimla City. In Andaman & Nicobar islands SEEDS is working with Tsunami affected families to implement recovery programmes which include shelter, livelihood, health, infrastructure and education.
