School facilities, buildings in particular, must meet tough
performances standards to withstand disasters and at the
same time become models of risk reduction practices in the
community. Children must be taught to react naturally to
disasters.
SEEDS, in partnership with the government are currently
involved with 150 schools in Gujarat. The Himachal initiative,
an extensive programme, involves 750 schools. SEEDS is also
implementing a pilot programme for schools in Delhi. All
activities include both structural and non-structural safety
measures.
