Bira Ram Chandrapur in Puri district, Odisha has been impacted by the heavy rains since December 3 due to Cyclone Jawad. A population of 3,250 has been affected in the Bira Ram Chandrapur panchayat. The region received continuous rain, causing subsequent flooding in the area. Most people living in the panchayat are from economically weaker sections like agriculture labourers and farmers with small landholdings who barely manage to make their ends meet.
Over 600 people have been evacuated from Bira Ram Chandrapur panchayat. As per the current update, more than 600 houses are damaged, extensive damage to around 2000 hectares of standing agricultural crop and livestock. Joyashree Mohapatra, Panchayat head, Bira Ram Chandrapur in Puri district, Odisha is urging for immediate support ration kits, essential items and cash support as most of their belongings have been washed away. Water sources in the area like community wells require urgent cleaning to cater to the drinking water needs. The ongoing adverse impact of Covid-19, additional challenges posed by the flood hence calls for urgent humanitarian appeal.

Monetary support to cyclone-affected families directly into their bank account to meet the daily needs as required.
Essential Kit – Rs. 5000
To enable a family to cook and rest. It comprises of clothes for family, plates, glasses, spoons, ladle, bowls, kadai, blanket, floor mat, candles and lighter.
Restoration of water sources- Rs. 10000
To support 20 families with safe and clean drinking water. Help in restoration of water sources like community wells by desludging, cleaning and chlorination.
