Destroyed lives and flooded homes
Prajapati’s little family is left with nothing as they stand in the middle of muck and water. When the floodwaters entered their shanty in Imaliya village, Shravasti district, Uttar Pradesh, they had no alternative but to save themselves.
Prajapati works as a daily wage earner in Shravasti district of Uttar Pradesh. When their family learned of the flood, Prajapatis’s wife Reeva (name changed) was occupied with the household chores. Heavy downpours and storms had already affected their earnings; the news of flood devastated the remainder of their livelihood. Prajapati had to seek safety, much like hundreds of the adjacent households. For Prajapati’s family, it was a difficult time as they struggled to care for the small children at home.
Their small family arrived home after the rain to discover it in ruins. They are now forced to make do with the meagre amount they could accumulate because the most of their belongings were destroyed in the water. SEEDS has been in touch with the flood-affected families in the area through a relief distribution project. These families are working really hard to support themselves and resume their regular lives.
