For some, winter may be a joyful time of the year! But those who are homeless, striving hard to recover from floods and cyclones already, are now struggling with lack of necessities like winter clothing, housing and food. For them, it is yet another disaster!
As per the Ministry of Statistics Report 2021, the number of cold waves has increased by almost 2.7 times from 2017 to 2020.
La Niña Effect in India: We have witnessed a very unusual spring and summer with extreme record-breaking heat spells this year. According to the World Meteorological Organization, La Niña has a cooling influence in India that might result in extreme and unfavourable winters.
This Giving Season, how about gifting a Winter-Care kit to those who need it?
As cold waves sweep through the states, people sleeping on the roads such as ragpickers, women, girls and children resort to the alternative shelters where all they have is lice-infected blankets discarded by the privileged. Such recurrent displacements during winters make them more vulnerable to infections and serious health concerns.
In order to support them, SEEDS aims to reach out to the homeless and marginalised population in slums, primarily covering Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, Uttarakhand; as well as respond to the evolving situation in other cold wave zones across the country. Our response initiative involves insulation of the shelter homes and distribution of winter relief kits.
